Look out for refined grain foods, such as bread, crackers, pasta, and morning meal cereals, not to mention all of their relatives, such as doughnuts, cookies, croissants, etc.

Fats and oils. Whatever that sounds as bad to say as lard, margarine, or trans fats can't be good for you.

Elimination of red meats high in saturated fats. This goes without saying, and I won't say that I have successfully given up my weekly steak just yet. Fish, at least that of the fried variety, would fall into this category.

Fruits and Vegetables. This may sound strange, but it does apply, at least when those fruits and veggies are fried, or accompanied by butter, cheese, or cream sauces.

Any liquids such as milk shakes, fruit juices, or other caffeinated beverages should be eliminated.

Canned soup. This may look strange on this list as well, but many canned soups have high levels of trans fats, sodium, and synthetic preservatives.

Lunch meats are processed foods containing sodium nitrate, a carcinogenic precursor which may cause cancer if consumed in high sufficient concentrations. Opt instead for unprocessed fresh meat choices.

Eliminate baked goods such as packaged cake and biscuit mixes. These have high concentrations of trans fats, as well as other additives such as corn syrup, preservatives, and synthetic flavors.
